We are planning the Great American Road Trip out to Seattle. Loren, Dad, Darby and myself are soon to be cruising cross-country in my Honda Fit. It promises to be awesome, but my experience of planning the trip might be best represented in the form of an SAT analogy -- White Whale: Ahab :: Hotel in Vegas without a pet fee: Adam. Anyhow, below are our best laid plans.
Day 1 (8/23) -- Drive to Montgomery, AL (570mi, 9.5 hrs).
Day 2 (8/24) -- Drive to New Orleans (300mi, 5hrs). Take in the French Quarter
Day 3 (8/25) -- Drive to San Antonio (550mi, 9hrs). Stop for lunch w/ Tim and Casey in Houston (6hrs from New Orleans)
Day 4 (8/26) -- See Alamo and Riverwalk. Drive to Carlsbad, NM (450mi, 7.5hrs)
Day 5 (8/27) -- Tour Carlsbad Caverns. Lunch in Roswell, NM (Aliens!). Drive to Gallup, AZ (400miles, 7hrs)
** If we feel frisky, we could try to make it to Flagstaff (597mi, 9.5hrs)
Day 6 (8/28) -- See Grand Canyon. Spend night near Grand Canyon (Flagstaff, AZ, perhaps)
Day 7 (8/29) -- Drive to Hoover Dam (240mi, 4hrs). Tour Dam. Spend the night in Las Vegas (35mi from Hoover Dam)
Day 8 (8/30) -- Drive to West Wendover, NV (370mi, 6.5hrs). Race the Honda around the salt flats.
Day 9 (8/31) -- Drive to Pendleton, OR (525mi, 9hrs). Possibly see a rodeo?
Day 10 (9/1) -- Drive to Seattle! (280mi, 4.5hrs) WOOT!
